When is the Best Time to Remodel?

Sadly, there is no secret to when the best time is to remodel your home other than having the time and financial means to afford the construction. Prices and weather are constantly fluctuating, preventing there from being an “optimal” time. The best option for each homeowner is going to be different.

However, in our experience working with thousands of homeowners we have seen the large time commitment needed for a successful home remodel. Because the process will be a serious time and energy commitment, we heavily recommend simplifying your life as much as possible before and during the construction and planning stages of your remodel. For example, starting a new job or having a child are far from ideal times to to commence the process.

Besides decreasing your time commitments and stress levels during your remodel, there are also several tips regarding planning we have gleamed from our experience that we want to share with you. We hope these tips save you time, money and headaches!

Build When Contractors Aren’t Busy

For every contractor there are certain times of the year where we are swamped with projects. Because the high demand, which occurs in the summer months, contractors have to turn down and delay some clients. This can be quite frustrating for homeowners itching to remodel, but we can only do a certain number of projects simultaneously before the quality of the projects off.

We recommend homeowners schedule their remodels in advance (3-4 months is ideal) or build during the less busy winter or fall months.  This allows us to give our full attention to your build, and prevents the possibility of you having to put your remodel on hold.

Plan Ahead

Seasonal weather and prices are uncontrollable, thanks to supply and demand. Knowing what materials you would like in your house before starting construction is a great way for you to slowly buy the materials you need while prices are slow. Check the average weather forecast for the few weeks you are thinking about starting work to see if rain or excess heat is expected.

These little actions can create a much smoother renovation, saving you and the construction team wasted time. Remodels change by the season. If you are adding onto your home, don’t do it in the middle of winter. Your house will be open to the harsh elements. However, a simple kitchen or bathroom renovation can be done at anytime of the year since all construction will be completed indoors.

Save Money. Buy Materials In Advance

Since prices of wood and other materials are constantly changing, check what their prices are every couple weeks. If you’re lucky, exactly what you want will go on sale! Planning ahead is a must for this factor to help you out. You need to know exactly what your remodel needs and begin buying it months beforehand in case prices suddenly spike. Your wallet and sanity will thank you.

We are here to help you plan and prepare for any home renovation. We do our best to thoroughly respond to questions and will work hand-in-hand with you to ensure that you feel heard.
