Giving Back For Thanksgiving: Rebuilding Together

Posted by Devon Shryock

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we wanted to highlight a specific community organization we’re particularly grateful for.Rebuilding Together Peninsula is the local affiliate of the national nonprofit Rebuilding Together. They provide repairs for low-income homeowners, particularly senior citizens, people with disabilities and families. With the help of local businesses and multitudes of volunteers, they help our neighbors continue to live independently safely.

A few quick facts:

  • Rebuilding Together Peninsula (RTP) started in 1989, so this year is their 25th anniversary!
  • There are more than 94,000 low-income homeowners in San Mateo and northern Santa Clara counties.
  • On the very first National Rebuilding Day in 1990, RTP worked on 18 sites.
  • 23 years later, RTP helped over 200.

Every year, on the last Saturday of April, Rebuilding Together hosts National Rebuilding Day. The community works together to repair homes and community facilities with the express goal to help community members stay in their homes where they can live warmly and safely.

Rebuilding Together Peninsula has even more programs to help the San Mateo area, like the Smoke Alarm Program. This runs in partnership with the Redwood City Fire Program and aims to increase the number of houses with working smoke alarms. Another is the Safe at Home Minor Home Repair Program. This targets a house’s smaller issues, and fixing them, before they turn in more serious concerns.

Now that the holiday season is officially in full gear, we’re reminded that to give is much better than to receive. Here at S.E.A. Construction, we are honored to shine a spotlight on an amazing organization that does so much good for our community. How are you giving back this season?
